💌september '23, #1, important updates!
Dear Reader, I hope this email finds you in the midst of a Wikipedia rabbit hole.
hello friend! i hope the weather’s changing has been something pleasant to you. for me, it means more time spent outside with my puppies!
september was full of changes for me, i was let go from my nannying gig which threw my entire month off, a HUGE wrench into my workshop plans this month 😭
i started nannying this year to help pick up the pace on my big girl purchases, like saving up for a car. i’ve been very blessed this year with opportunities as a creative, but with the cost of living eating everyone alive i really did need that job and i really enjoyed it 🥲
i suppose it’s more time for poetry and game development, time to give being a full-time artist another try! let’s get on with it:
1️⃣ Shifting to Patreon & at long last, STICKERS!!!
since June, I have been re-posting my Patreon content here because it was a convenient way for me to share my newsletter with more people, especially with substack allowing us to comp subscriptions, a feature I hope Patreon will include in the future!
I have enjoyed using this platform, but I will be shifting to Patreon going forward to pour my focus into its exciting new features such as collections (for grouping posts—so I can group all of my game dev posts & my poetry posts separately!), a built-in store, and merch included with your patronage!
I finally got my stickers finalised after so many months of planning, and I am so happy with the proofs! though, because it’s me we’re talking about, it didn’t come without a silly mistake which I will get into in a minute 😭
I have three tiers on Patreon: las estrellas (US$1), el sol (US$10), and la flor (US$15). all tiers have access to posts (including a sheet with every prompt I’ve shared) and my twitch stream VODs—when I get back to streaming 😅
at $10, you receive a 10% off coupon for my store and one sticker after three months of support!
at $15 tier, in addition to the earlier rewards, you receive one sticker every three months for one year—four stickers total!
these are all stickers geared towards writers. I designed them simply because I wanted them to put on the back of my laptop and water bottle! if they don’t suit you, they will make wonderful gifts for the writers in your life :)
pictured below: a sheet with three stickers — “i survived poetry month” in pink, “i wish i was writing” in red, “i survived nanowrimo” in turquise. $10 patrons will receive this one after 3 months of support!
I previously shared a different sticker design, “I can shape tomorrow if I try” but THEN I found out Patreon does sticker sheets and wanted to try it! so technically it’s three stickers in one, six stickers total 😅🥰
pictured below: a google doc design with text that reads, “feel free to distract me / i’m just writing…”
this is where my fumbling comes in: I waited weeks to receive the proofs from Patreon only to receive three out of the four! when I got around to contacting them and re-ordering the proof, I mistakenly uploaded the fourth sticker again so now I just have TWO of them hahaha. I’m pleased with the equality of the third sticker, so I’m confident the quality of this one will be good!
pictured below: a gmail design with body text that reads, “born to write poetry / forced to write emails”
like I told y’all, I designed these in a fit of self-indulgence because I wanted to put it on the back of my laptop! I WAS born to write poetry!!! I AM forced to write emails!!!
pictured below: a rainbow-layered text that reads, “ask me about my WIPs”
look i’m not saying this is going to work. i’m not guaranteeing anything. but suppose you’re a writer waiting for your dream café/library meetcute. you put this on the back of your laptop. the girl of your dreams points out your sticker. you see where I’m going with this
again—if none of these really fit you, these are gonna be the perfect birthday/holiday gift for your writer friends!

2️⃣ about my game, Masarap!, and game dev thoughts…
you may have recently read one of the many posts [article, article, article] about upsetting changes that Unity has put forth. Unity is the engine I am using to develop my game, and it is the only game engine I have ever used.
to put it plainly, the changes that have been proposed and the narrative from the executives has severed the trust between the company and developers like myself.
you’re likely familiar with Adobe’s decision to shift their programs from one-time purchases (rip CS6 🥹 this was where I learned to use Photoshop, making bandom edits) to a subscription-based system: creators have been harmed by a company’s decision to line their pockets
so I have decided to switch from Unity to another game engine; I’m looking at Godot right now! I am discouraged and very deeply upset about this, because I poured so much effort into learning C# and Unity, and now I have to learn a new game engine, but I’m not going to hang up the hat.
I am really passionate about game development and want to make many many games in the future and I guess at the end of the day now I’m walking away from this a proficient C# programmer 🥹 so wish me luck!!
that’s it for now :’) it’s been really cool connecting with you all on Substack and I hope to see you over on Patreon. if you have an account, you can “follow” me for free and receive my free newsletter at the start of every month!
see you elsewhere on the Internet! here’s this for a prompt:
you're a breathing matryoshka doll. what's inside?
Thank you for sharing your writing here, I’ve enjoyed it and will follow along on patreon! 🥳
